1 The first strand, being socially driven, is the support given to the local unemployed, particularly youth. Furniture on the Street successfully trained 37 local young people in carpentry skills and shares a workshop with Construction Training.
2 We work with experienced designers to create competitive product which offers additional benefits for the customer not only in terms of the quality of its designs, but also the potential to customise product or be part of a community workshops to develop specials.
Furniture on the Street has already provided several orders for public spaces for local authorities and worked with local communities to achieve some striking solutions. Furniture has also been tested by the Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA) to the highest contract British Standards. nterprise was established by the Old Ford Housing Association, part of Circle Anglia with grant funding from the European Social Fund (ESF).
Thirdly is our commitment to the environment. The project utilises timber reclaimed from London demolition sites which has clear benefit in reducing landfill, limiting processing, transport costs, saving trees, and thereby also reducing CO2 emissions.3
